Meeting Report

February 10, 2007

The meeting was held at the Avery Creek Community Center February 10th 2007. There were 11 people there. It was another great meeting started by Teresa with business. Barbara D. re-inventoried the library and updated cards. Books can now be officially checked out. Many thanks to Barb. Thanks also to those that have returned library materials. There are still some overdue books and magazines out there though. Please remember they are for sharing, not keeping.

Barbara VL announced details for the Marla Frankenberg flower and foliage cane workshop April 21 & 22 (see home page for complete details).

Marilyn is asking for volunteers from BRPCG to co-host, along with SMPCG, the National Polymer Clay Guild 2008 meeting at Arrowmont in Gatlinburg, TN. The duties would include registering the attendees, etc. Complete details aren't available yet. It's a great opportunity to meet and learn from clay artist from all over. Think about it folks.

The SMPCG is also having a class by Leslie Blackford on hinged art dolls and making a lamp in June or July. Look for more info to follow.

We then moved on to show and tell. Amazing as usual. We also learned a new technique for conditioning clay. Hit the package with a rubber mallet (hard). It seems to work well. I'm going to try it.

After a short break Sharon started her great demo on flower canes. From simple bulls-eye flowers to complicated looking roses. While making it look easy and answering all questions. She's very knowledgeable and generous teacher! Thanks Sharon. We then returned to our tables and proceeded to try to our own flower canes.

I know I repeat myself when I say IMHO fun was had by all.

The challenge for next month is to make something using canes.

Demo's for March will be foil & faux.
