Meeting Report

May 14, 2005

The Blue Ridge Polymer Clay Guild held its monthly meeting May 14 at the Avery Creek Community Center. There were 12 people in attendance.

Pat opened the meeting:

She reminded us that we have the opportunity to display our work at the library again this year in August. Please bring your best work by the July meeting.

Irene announced new guidelines for using the Guild oven at meetings. We had a slight problem with clay day because of heavy use of the oven. It was being opened quite a lot and some pieces did not cure completely due to temperature fluctuations. From now on we will set a timer for 30 minutes when the first pieces go in and not open it for the next batch until the timer goes off.

Kay handed out the revised membership list.

On to show and tell and this month's challenge pieces -- the challenge was "hollow."

We then started the demos on methods to use paint with clay. Barbara D showed us how to paint with watercolor (Twinkling H2O's) and watercolors with Pearl-ex mixed in. Suzanne demo-ed how to use Genesis Heat Set Oil Paints to make alphabet beads. Gail showed us faux jade with watercolor paint. Irene showed us her beautiful "stretchy" paint technique. Thanks to all that demo-ed. Everybody did a great job! We are lucky to have so many talented people!

After that we all went to work trying out what we had been shown.

**The challenge for next month is "metallic."**
