We had a good turnout for our January meeting -- 21 people were there, including 6 visitors. The theme was "Back to Basics," or "Everything You Wanted to Know About Clay But Were Afraid to Ask." :)
We didn't have a Challenge for this month. Our Show and Tell was interesting, as always, but was greatly abbreviated since everyone had set out their beautiful things on our special display table. We spent a lot of time oohing and aahing over there. :) Unfortunately, we have no pics for this month...the one camera that made it to the meeting this month had dead batteries. Sorry, guys...next month hie thee to the meeting!
Remember that dues are due! It's $20 for the year (will be prorated quarterly). Additional family members can join for half price. When you pay your dues you will receive one of our new member packets (even if you're an old member), which has essential guild information, including a list of member names and addresses. If you're not able to get here very often, just come when you can and pay $3 per meeting. We love to have you! Remember, though, that only full members can sell work or excess supplies at our sales
table during meetings and can take advantage of library borrowing privileges. (And speaking of the library, if anyone has overdue library materials, please drop them in the mail to Gail so other people can borrow them.)
Our challenge for February is "Valentines."
Our next Clay Day is being planned for April 23 from 9 to 5, so clear your calendars! It's always fun, so you won't want to miss this. :) Cost is $10. Barb will be sending out more info later.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch.... We had an interesting and informative and extensive introduction to polymer clay. Irene began by explaining what polymer clay is and discussing the different brands. Gail followed with a discussion of conditioning clay,
mixing colors, and storage. Then Pat (c'est moi!) went over baking, clean-up, and safety. Teresa, in addition to her role of hall monitor, did a terrific job of breaking leaves! Maggie covered a great selection of tools, textures, and mica powders. Irene discussed glues, and then Kay, who is known for her beautiful finishes among other things, discussed varnishes, sanding, and buffing. Maggie demonstrated Skinner blends, Marilyn fascinated our visitors with caneworking, Irene showed uses of texture and paint, and Kay illustrated her discussion of transfers with samples of her tile bracelets.
We had a great time, we enjoyed having our visitors, and we missed those of you who couldn't make it. Our next meeting will be February 12, and our demo will be "Beads." Be there or be square!...or round...or oval...or lentil...or mobius...or sculptural...or pillow...or bicone...or......
I'm planning to pull together a black-and-white bead swap after this meeting. More details later. Hope to see y'all in February!
