These are my notes from the regular meeting of the BRPCG held on
Saturday May 8th at the Avery's Creek Community Club.
Present:
Pat, Irene, Gail, Kay, Nancy, Teresa, Darleen, Ellen, Edie, Penny, Judy and me. We had three guests, Sandy, Jackie and Barbara. Sandy paid dues and became our newest member.
Pat opened the business meeting with an announcement that we had regrettably canceled the Donna Kato class. The Raleigh guild is hosting the same class on June 12th & 13th. Anyone wishing to attend the Raleigh class can find information on our web site.
Nancy reminded all members to wear their name tags. She has agreed to manage a process that will reward those remembering to wear their tags.
Our June challenge is "postage stamps".
Our June meeting will be a project meeting with a focus on bookmarks.
We did show and tell, and some members showed their rubber stamp challenge pieces. Irene took pictures which I think she will post as soon as I finish these notes.
There was a discussion regarding the meager attendance at the clay day in April. We decided to cancel the July clay day. The clay day schedule for October is still going to happen. But ladies, let's turn out for this one!
Nancy and Irene volunteered to help Gail with the Pack Library display case which we have for the month of August. So if you want your work on display, you need to bring it to the July meeting.
Nancy is the new "keeper" of the bead jar. Put in a $1 and a bead to get a chance to win all the beads at our next birthday party in April 2005. Nancy says her goal is 45 beads. If you don't care about winning the prize, you can donate a bead (no $1) and you name will not go into the hat. I am still trying to figure out why you would want to do that, but now you can!
Sooooooooo...now the fun began.
Darleen, Teresa and Pat all demonstrated their sculpting techniques and tips. Darleen works large, uses mostly fimo and cernit. She uses tinfoil and floral wire armature for heads and hands. Teresa works a little smaller than Darleen, and uses apoxie sculp over foil and wire armature. Then she puts polymer on top of that. Pat works itty bitty. She uses mostly fimo and some kato clay and does not use armature (no room in there that I could see). I cannot do justice to this demo. We came away with lots of information. Darlene then showed everyone how to make a little dragon and how to mount it on a clear Christmas tree ornament, which someone (Pat or Darleen??) supplied.
Sad news is that Darlene is moving to that state where you have to wear a cheese on you head in order to be an insider. Some flimsy excuse about grandchildren. Hopefully she will come to her senses before moving day. But if not, we wish her well. We will miss you Darleen. Take it easy on the cheese!
