Meeting Report

July 10, 2004

Pat opened the meeting with a welcome to several visitors. Apparently "word was out" that Jan and Maggie were doing fabulous demonstrations and several visitors traveled to Avery Creek for the event.

Gail once again reminded everyone about the opportunity to purchase books at a 40% discount if there were enough ordered (only needed 5). She would take orders at the meeting.

Irene asked that anyone who wanted their clay projects to be shown at the Pack Library in Asheville during the month of August to be sure and give them to her before leaving today, if possible. Irene and Gail will be setting up the exhibit and returning the projects to members at the BRPC Guild Meeting in September.

The Challenge for July was small art dolls. Photographs of the projects are being posted with the minutes. There were several members who brought in projects and it was very interesting to see the different ideas.

The Challenge for August is "Bugs"!

Everyone was reminded to watch the postings in our mailboxes about Carol Duvall retiring from HGTV. However…………there are rumors floating that more craft shows are coming to HGTV called "Crafters Coast to Coast. Check you HGTV website as there was a talent search posted or anyone interested may e-mail: CoastToCoast@wellergrossman.com.

Jan and Maggie attended a Donna Kato workshop held in Raleigh, North Carolina in June. They both were absolutely delighted with the seminar and especially with Donna Kato. It was obvious that they had a wonderful time and learned many new and exciting techniques. With permission from Donna Kato, they demonstrated some of the techniques they learned and also showed many of their projects. They had lots of stories to tell and both highly recommend anyone taking advantage of any upcoming workshops. Jan told us that Donna is willing to schedule another workshop, possibly in the Asheville area. Donna has written another book and is currently finalizing production of her new videos which include her latest techniques. Hopefully they will soon be on the market. A very big "thank you" to Jan and Maggie for your generosity in sharing with us.

Don't forget the opportunity to attend the Nan Roche workshop sponsored by the Capital Area Polymer Clay Guild in Raleigh, North Carolina on August 21st and 22nd.

Happy Crafting!
