Meeting Report

October 11, 2003

The guild meeting was held October 11 at the Fernihurst annex building on A-B Tech campus. We had two guests, Kathy Robinson and Darlene Berndt, both from Asheville. Barbara, Teresa, Gail, Irene, Lynda, Sue, Suzanne, Kay, Edie, Karen Heggen, Karen Massey, Nancy, Marion and Maggie were there.

Business:
We discussed officer nominations. Marion volunteered to be demo coordinator, Lynda to be workshop coordinator. Suzanne said she would consider being secretary if she doesn't move. No one else volunteered for the remaining positions. It was agreed that the elections will be at the January meeting and the new officers will take over at the February meeting. It's coming up fast and as Suzanne said in the last report "Please think seriously about whether you'd like to serve as an officer or whether there's someone you'd like to nominate."

We also discussed pursuing the Dorothy Greynolds class.

Lynda said her daughter was doing well and thanked all that had expressed concern.

I almost forgot our other guests, Flat Stanley and Habbit the Rabbit! (Sue, hope I got that spelled right)

Then the real fun started. The theme of the meeting was things you do other than polymer clay. What a bunch of talented people!

Sue demonstrated yarn making from scratch. Spinning her rabbits' fur into yarn.

Barbara showed us her beautiful wire wrap jewelry technique.

Suzanne showed us how to make sand candles (gave us a nice hand out too).

Kay her elegant beaded items, quilts and vests. She also demonstrated loom beading.

Edie showed us amazing etching, inkle loom weaving and ceramics.

Gail explained how she makes her intricate baskets.

Nancy had her assortment of gorgeous enamel work, beading and soy silk collages.

Marion said she was a hooker (of beautiful rugs, that is).

Karen Heggen read her poems and showed the prints she makes to go with them.

Karen Massey showed her watercolor paintings, the little magnets she makes from them and her beaded necklaces.

Pat showed us her knitted throw.

Lynda wowed everyone with the cards she made using various stamping techniques. (We might be able to talk her into a hands on demo) She was going to let us make cards but we ran out of time.

Awesome demos ladies!

Irene said she doesn't do anything except clay. I think she can add photography to her list of talents. She did a great job capturing all the fun.

I'm sorry if I left out anybody. It is hard to take notes and watch demos at the same time.

The challenge for the November meeting is to make something with a feather theme.
