Meeting Report

November 8, 2003

Attendees: Irene, Pat S., Edie, Maggie, Nancy, Marion, Kay.
New members: Darlene, Kathy, Ellen and Faye - all of Asheville - Welcome!

Edie visited with Emily Bartlet of Tryon Art Center. They have a very nice facility and are looking for people to teach polymer clay (yes, for money). Submit your class outline to Emily. Edie will post a contact address for her. Tryon is right down the road, so a guild member teaching there could bring us some new members.

December meeting will be an ornament swap. Make 'em and trade 'em!

December challege will be either 'winter' or 'mokume gane' - take your pick.

Pat Smith has organized a clay play day (say that fast) for November 22nd, 9 -5 all day fun at our usual meeting place. $10 per person at the door to cover the rental of the room. You can do anything you want (or in some cases, have not found time for). Probably be some impromptu demos and such. Members and non-members are invited to come and share a good time. Thanks Pat!

We decided that if anyone wants to use the guild oven for teaching or whatever, they can rent it for $5.

Pat Smith had her just received copy of Katherine Dewey's new book. It is a beauty. Hey Gail, please get one for the guild library. Purchase and/or take a look at www.elvenwork.com.

Election of officers will happen at the January meeting. Irene is posting a list of officer positions and the related duties for each. We talked about assigning responsibility for flyers, business cards, etc. on an as needed basis to someone with computer expertise. Youwho, Sue or Jan??? Pat Smith agreed to put her name on the ballot for President. Irene agreed to run for Vice President / Demo Coordinator and she agreed to remain as our webmistress. Gail has agreed to continue to be Librarian. Kay has agreed to run again as Treasurer. Our guild will only be a strong and viable organization if its membership is willing to serve in these leadership positions. Please look over the list and consider taking the responsibility for one of these positons. Submit your name for the ballot on the general post. If you will not be at the January meeting to vote, you can do so by email just before the meeting.

The status of the Dorothy Greynolds workshop is that it is tabled until early spring. There is a lot of interest and Darlene has agreed to be hostess and airport pickup person. Thanks Darlene! The cost per person for a one day class will be around $80. If you have not see her work take a look at www.gailsroom.com/dorothy.html.

Tips of the month include: nail clippers make good wire cutters and 91% alchohol works better for clean up than the whimpy stuff. You can get a big jug cheap at WalMart.

Irene showed some cool homemade texture tools. Maggie and Edie showed their favorite tools too. Maggie gave a skinner blend and bulls eye cane demo for the new members. Because Kay had the mentor idea, she got to be mentor for this meeting. Seems fair, yes? Then we all made or covered some tools.

The oven went home with Irene since she is sure she will be at clay play day. If you want an incentive to come too, Irene is going to cover an entire dresser with polymer clay......did I get that right Irene?

See ya at clay play day.
