There were 14 in attendance including two guests - Jan and Donna.

Grovewood Open House - July 5th

This is the annual open house which allows guilds, clubs to demonstrate and sell their items. The hours are 10AM - 7PM.

Volunteers are still needed for working the booth, and conducting the demonstrations. Demos will be conducted at a "combined demo area".

So far, the following have volunteered to work a shift (or more) at the booth: Gail, Marion, Edie, Kay, Maggie, Nancy.

The following have volunteered to demo: Maggie, Sue.

Approximately 8 individuals indicated they would have items for sale/display. Each individual's work will be grouped together with a label identifying the artist instead of grouping "like" items together. Items that are to be for "display only" will be given to Gail after the show (with the owner's permission) to be used for the guild's library display.

If you have items for display or to sell, they can be brought to the Julia Sober classes or shipped to Edie to arrive by July 3rd.

Each item to be sold should be labeled with your 3 initials and a sequential number, i.e.., JHS01 and the price. You should provide a listing of each item with the assigned item number, description, and the price. Both Grovewood and the guild keep a small percentage. An extra 3% will be deducted if the customer uses a credit card. The % deducted will be approximately 25%.

Tables: Sue is checking on getting tables from her employer to use. Linda has a 6' table available and Kay has an 8' table. Maggie secured black fabric to be used for table covers.

Tissue paper is needed to wrap items. If you have "fragile" items, please send wrapped in a box that can then be given to the customer.

It was suggested that Irene allow her books to be sold. We will have one of each for display and sell from some stock if individuals are interested.

Julia Sober Classes

Class is 9AM - 5PM. Irene volunteered to post a menu from Bruegger Bagels and take orders for lunch. She will provide a cooler with ice and lemonade all for one price. Of course anyone is welcome to also bring their own lunch. Watch for more info.

If anyone needs a place to stay overnight, send an email to the group. Some of the guild members in the Asheville area may have space available.

Library

Gail reminded us of library procedures. Gail or a library representative will sign items out. One item has be "checked out" but no name was put on the card. Gail will post an inquiry about this item to locate it.

Irene has donated one of her new books to the guild. She also has copies for sale at a discount to guild members. (It's a great book!)

Challenge

The challenge items - your pet were displayed and Irene took pictures to post on the website. See them here.

The July Challenge is a technique challenge. Use a texture in an interesting way to create an item - you can even make it a "guess what made this texture" if you wish.

Miscellaneous

Kay mentioned www.glassattic.com This is a great website with a "wealth" of polymer clay information. Check this out if you are not familiar with this site.

Demo

Irene's demo was great and we all had fun making our ancient coins. A reminder that she is writing an article on this to be published and we were asked not to "teach" this to anyone else until the article is published.
