Wow, what a full and exciting meeting.
There were so many great thing going on I hope I don't forget
any of it.
Our October 12th meeting was held at the
Laurel building at A-B Tech. Kay, Irene, Marilyn, Gayle, Sue,
Edie, Maggie, Pat Smith, Pat Pettyjohn were all there. We also
welcomed a guest, Pat Atkinson.
Meeting Place
Most of us agreed that the meeting place at A-B tech was nice
and we would continue there at least for a while. It is quiet,
has good light and plenty of space. Still no permanent home for
the library or oven though.
Web Site
Irene, our webmistress, announced that she is going to overhaul
our web site around first of the year. She is asking that we
send her suggestions regarding things we like/dislike about sites
we see.
Fund Raising
Irene suggested a silent auction or raffle. She donated the first
items and agreed to collect things from others for this. We agreed
but have not worked out the fine details yet. Keep it in mind
if you have anything you would like to donate for this.
Also we agreed to try the bead jar again.
It's been so long if you don't remember here is how it worked:
Anyone who would like to at a meeting donates a bead and a dollar
to the guild. Your name goes in. When the jar is full we have
a drawing and the person wins the whole jar. So bring a bead
and a dollar to the next meeting if you want a chance to win.
Monthly challenge
The challenge of the month was a toy or game. Edie brought a
fascinating "sky hook". It balances on an edge and
holds thing in mid air. Maggie brought a seasonal tic-tac-toe
board with black cats and jack-o-lanterns. Click here
to see.
Show and tell
Irene showed a cool blade holder made from pc and magnets, some
of her new clocks made from old cd's, also using a rubber stamp/foil
technique. Pat Pettyjohn showed some of her beautiful necklaces.
She showed us how to make a loop with buna cord, o-ring and needle
tool. She also showed us how to make two adjustable closures
for necklaces.
Demo
Next Sue Dial showed us how to make those cute little beads from
her bracelets that has been fascinating us for so long. She uses
a clay gun with the square die and packs it with her selection
of bits of clay. Extrudes, bakes, cuts, and drills a hole in
each tiny bead. She also in a rock tumbler to help sand them.
Great demo Sue. Wow. Lots of work in those thousands of little
beads in her bracelets.
October was also swap/sale month. There
were many nice thing there. Beautiful pc finished pieces, beads,
stainless switch plates, etc.
Tip of the month
The tips from this month were so numerous. There were tips from
Irene, Marilyn, Pat P. Gail, Maggie, and Edie. Rember to bring
your tip to the next meeting so we can gather them for a members
booklet.
There were great discussions going on all
around as usual.
Kay & Edie offered to demo lentil beads
some time in the future.
November meeting
The November meeting will be at A-B Tech in the Laurel building.
Next month's the challenge will be to make a container or box
using only polymer clay if possible. Leslie Abbott is scheduled
to demo her mosaic technique.
It should be great.
Well, that's all I can remember. Please
feel free to add anything I left out.
