Nobody took notes, we were having too much fun, so let's see how much I can remember. (If I forget anything, please chime in y'all.) We started off oohing and aahing over all the Christmas tree ornaments that people brought in for the Grovewood Gallery show. Some were wildly imaginative and some were ethereal and others were cute as the proverbial button. It's too bad that those of you who weren't there had to miss them. Irene gave us a little talk on pricing so that the sales newbies could figure out a decent price to put on their work. She still has some labels left, and the deadline to get the ornaments to her (or to the Grovewood Gallery) is Nov. 1. They must be at the gallery by that date. Irene also shared a neat technique that involves mixing Future with Pearlex, painting it on raw clay, and running it through the pasta machine to get a crinkle effect. She passed around some samples she had done. She also had samples on some switchplate color combos that she asked us to vote on to help her choose her palette for 2002. Kathy Wu showed off some more of her PMC work as well as a mold she made using the material than Jan showed us in a previous meeting. It's called Belicold (or something like that). It's easy to use and doesn't require using a release like armor-all or cornstarch. Kathy bought it at Rio Grande. Pat Smith had another one of her cute miniatures (a flower-eating troll) as well as a Tooth Fairy Altoids box, and Maggie brought in some of her patriotic pins to show us. Maggie also brought a big bag of Dove chocolate pieces to share. Each chocolate was wrapped in a foil with a wise saying on the inside. So we all received a little wisdom with our tooth decay. The star of the day was Marilyn Davenport who taught us how to make invisible canes with Premo Pearlescent Clay. We made various samples with different effects -- all very exotic and inspiring. Thank you so much, Marilyn. There are endless uses for this technique. Gail passed out all the books that
we had received, and many people were able to borrow the new
books and videotapes that were also recently received. The only
person who hasn't received her books yet is Pat Pettijohn. (When
are you coming to a meeting, Pat, so I can off-load these books!
Lynn K., you will get the refund on the OP books directly The next meeting will be, I believe, a sharing of useful tools we have found and/or constructed (necessity being the mother of invention) and how to use them, but this will be confirmed via email later on. All in all, we had a great day
and can't wait for the next meeting. Y'all come now! |
