MEETING REPORTS

July 14, 2001

The meeting opened with a brief discussion of the Grovewood show. We expressed our thanks to those who contributed so much to the effort: Irene for offering the use of her booth, and for bringing it over and setting it up, and then for manning the booth all day; Gail, for helping set up the booth and the displays as well; all those who demonstrated; and all others who helped with sales and takedown at the end of the day. To everyone who contributed to the show--thanks.

We welcomed some new folks--Lisa, Sarah, Isabel,Suzanne, Janine, Brenda and Glenda-- and we hope that they will decide to join us.

Irene gave us a synopsis of the receipts from the show--total sales were $495.35, Grovewood's 15% share came to about $74, the 10% share to our Guild was about $50. Sue and Rebecca took pictures and Irene will get them on the website.

Gail discussed some library business: new additions to the library, and a book order that is now ready to be sent in.

A demo for August is not planned so far. If anyone wants to volunteer for this please let Sara Jane know. A bookbinding demo is planned for September.

Pat S. (The First, The Original, The Treasured Treasurer) gave her report on our finances. The treasury now has $720.31 in it. Some of this will go to pay for the book order and other expenses.

Gail said that the banner project fell through and we all agreed that since we do not need one soon, we will discuss what to do about this in the future.

Show and Tell followed with lots of beautiful work passed around and admired.

Our much anticipated Swap Meet took place next. Cartons of stuff were brought in by those ambitious enough to clean up their studios and everyone had a grand time poking through all the goodies. This event is a great idea and everyone seemed to enjoy it.

A series of short demos were given by Irene, Pat P. (The New, the Super Finisher), Maggie, Byrd and Jan. Irene did a demo on basic sanding and buffing techniques; Pat P. demonstrated her use of the Dremel Minimite which she has adapted for sanding and buffing; Maggie demonstrated a Scumbuster she has adapted for sanding; Byrd discussed
and showed beads she has sanded by tumbling, and also showed a double strand of beads she has assembled which show the progressive appearance of the beads as she used coarser to finer sandpapers, with and without buffing; Jan discussed mold-making using a compound she learned about in the recent PMC class she and Kathy took.

All in all, this was a very active and informative meeting
