MEETING REPORTS

November 11, 2000

Hi Everyone,

I know I am starting to sound repetitive here, but we just had a wonderful meeting which I know you will be sorry to have missed. We started with new and old business, some of which others have already begun to discuss, but here is the summary:

1) Gail will be updating the library listing on the eGroup site, with help from Rebecca. You will need to sign in to eGroups to access the database function (as with the shared files) and the direct link for the database page containing the library is:

http://www.egroups.com/database/brpcg

If you would like to have Gail bring anything from the library to a meeting, please let her know before the meeting. Gail is also soliciting input from everyone on what we think the library policies should be (length of loans, overdue penalties...) and any opinions you have on expanding the library. Other guilds have varying policies including inexpensive monthly rentals of guild-owned tapes. We welcome your ideas.

2) Pat gave us the quarterly treasury report. As a reminder, memberships renew in January, so you can plan ahead. Don't worry. I will remind you again (g).

3) Gail's committee has set a deadline of March for the logo competition. They have set up an ingenious plan for us to be able to vote on the various anonymous submissions. Only paid up members will have voting privileges. Gail will be posting separately soon with the full details of this event, and guidelines for submissions.

4) Irene came up with a wonderful idea for a tool swap to be scheduled sometime in the spring. Have you got a tool you don't use anymore, or maybe a duplicate? We will be bringing these in to a future meeting with an eye for swapping, so start looking through your collection now.

5) We started discussing the possibilities for a guild web site. Several member offered space on their sites with a BRPCG link. Please take a look at other guild sites and share your feelings on what you would like to see on our guild's site.

6) The NAME TAG SWAP! I can't wait for everyone to see all the beautiful new name tags. They were a fascinating collection of techniques and viewpoints, and everyone was thrilled. If you were signed up, but not present, and haven't yet heard from the person who had your name, please post here to arrange the swap. If you missed this opportunity, you aren't the only one regretting it. We will try to arrange for another small name tag swap if you missed the first, so please let us know if you are interested. Thanks to all of those not present who arranged for their tags to be. I love my beautiful new pin from Edie!

7) Discussions of upcoming months' meetings included plans for an all day workshop from Byrd in February (there will be a charge for this class, and details will follow separately), and a demonstration from Kathy on jewelry findings in March.

8) DECEMBER meeting. We will have our usual meeting on the second Saturday, December 9th, from noon to 4:00 P.M. Plans are to make ornaments of any type at this meeting and to try to make at least one to swap on the spot. As an extra challenge, try
looking through your clay supplies to find that tool or powder or clay that you bought and keep meaning to try out and never have. We've all been there, and have at LEAST one item in our collections that fits this description. Bring it along with you for this Holiday Clay Playday and see if we can't help you find a use for it. I will add more details about the December meeting in an upcoming post.

I know the above list sounds like more than an hour and a half, but as Irene mentions, we refrained from discussing politics, and covered this all expeditiously to leave time for Irene's wonderful color mixing demo. Based on an article by Margaret Maggio in the Polyinformer, Irene has developed a mixing chart to help simplify the development of your own personal color palette. She passed out copies of her chart and instructions for us to keep. Then Irene explained how to use these to create your own color recipes that can be reliably and accurately reproduced as you need, while maintaining a minimum number of base colors in your stock. Next we all set to work mixing the colors we had brought with us. What was especially wonderful about being there was that we got to see all Irene's previous experiments as well as those of everyone who was present. I was sitting beside Byrd, and we had 2 totally different sets of three base colors that yielded two VERY different palettes. Walking around the room at the end of class was a great lesson in what to mix...and what not to mix (my personal contribution). Please remember to be respectful of the handouts that Irene shared. Thanks Irene for this very informative and helpful class.

I hope I haven't rambled, but I am still enthusiastic about yesterday's meeting and, as always, the chance to share and chat with all my guild friends. I can't wait to see everyone in December.
