MEETING REPORTS

May 13, 2000

Hello everyone,

Sorry this report has taken so long to post, but Irene has been too busy getting ready for her shows and I have been out of town. But I'm back now. We had a wonderful May meeting in a work area set up in the gallery below Byrd's beautiful and spacious new studio. I wish you all could have seen it. We briefly discussed business, including the reminder that June's meeting will be the BRPCG sponsored classes with Linda Goff. If anyone still has questions about signing up for classes, please email me. We still have spaces in both classes. If we have received your check, you should have received confirmation and a materials list. If you have not received confirmation, please email me
immediately so we can straighten out the error.

There was also show and tell during which we got to see the advance copy of Irene's fabulous new book. The book is a blend of 20 projects by Irene and others, including some from our fellow guild members, and although it is aimed at beginners, the projects are not simplistic. She will have the book for purchase directly from her as soon as it is available (probably July - but keep checking for word from Irene) as well as being available on Irene's website and other book outlets. We also saw some exciting new work from Byrd, as well as some follow-up from the egg demo in April. I wish I could remember everything each individual brought to the meeting, but I'm sure we all remember the home-made cookies.

Byrd's clay painting demo was everything promised and more. She provided 4" tiles for a painting surface, as well as a drawing and step-by-step examples of the project stages. After a brief discussion of color theory, and viewing examples of Byrd's other clay paintings for inspiration, we started working. Byrd was able to offer individual help as needed, and we baked in several stages. Everyone was able to take home their individual version of a completed or nearly completed 4" painting made from Byrd's drawing. I am trying to post a scan of mine on the shared files at our site in eGroups so you can see what Byrd was able to teach us in one short lesson. Try the following link for the scans: http://www.egroups.com/files/brpcg/

The plan for July's meeting is still up for discussion, so please post or send me any suggestions of things you would like to see demonstrated or demonstrate yourself. One suggestion was to each make a different type of mokume gane and bring both an example and printed instructions to the meeting. I can then gather the different instructions and redistribute to everyone attending. Please let me know of this is something you are interested in seeing.

Hope to See Everyone Soon,
