MEETING REPORTS

August 12, 2000

The August meeting was well-attended despite the absence of several members who could not make it. We had quite a few new people, and we warmly welcome them all. Some of them decided to join our guild, and Treasurer Pat Smith can tell us at the next meeting how many new members we now have.

This was an outstanding meeting, thanks to Byrd Tetzlaff, who conducted a THREE-HOUR lesson in canemaking. She started off with three basic black and white canes which she said are the basis for all others. Then she took us through the steps for making Skinner blends, chevron canes, leaf canes and Natasha beads. She also showed interesting pieces she had made in a recent Donna Kato class using translucents.

There was a general show-and-tell during which some of the new attendees showed recent work.

Byrd is an excellent teacher--patient, generous and helpful and we are grateful to her for the time and effort she put into this for us. Thanks, Byrd.

Hope to see you all next month for the Big Bead Swap!
